The Music of 2023
I have been an avid music follower since I was a teenager and it has never diminished. Ever. I constantly seek out new music, new artists and new genres.
So each year, I'll make post right here, that will pull out the songs that have become new constants on my turntable (a virtual turntable, i'm a streaming man nowadays...)
Wellll by Jacob Collier
I only heard this song last week and it's made me delve a bit deeper into Jacob Collier, knowing nothing about him. His songs don't follow your usual patterns and come across as disjointed, but it seems to work. A musical genius for sure (watch some of his live shows), I can see me getting bored of this song, but right now, I love listening to it.
Sinner by The Last Dinner Party
There is a lot of talk about this band right now, though this is only their second song to be released. After 'Nothing matters', this song is just as good. Looking forward to more from this band.
Suicide by Ren
I could have picked any song by Ren (if you haven't sat and watched Hi Ren at least 10 times, what have you been doing...), but this really hits and has a great video to follow.
I don't believe there is a more important artist to follow right now. it's as if he has appeared from nowhere, but every song he releases seem to hit his mark.
I am far from a fan of rap or hiphop, but Ren really is something else.
Manifest by The Crystal Fighters
The rain may have forgotten it's summer, but this song will remind you.
The Narcissist by Blur
Great song and it's great to see them back. I am not always fan of Damon's voice, but this really works.
Wildbird by The Coral
The Coral go spaghetti western! I love this and can't wait for the album
Every days a lesson in humility by Suki Waterhouse and Bell and Sebastian
This song has such a great summery vibe. Fantastic vocals and I always love Belle and Sebastian.
The People Say by Steve Mason
Love this song! Steve Mason is a Scottish musician, best known as the lead singer and one of the founding members of the band The Beta Band. The Beta Band, active between 1996 and 2004, were known for their experimental, eclectic sound that blends rock, folk, electronic, and trip-hop elements.
Meeting the Master by Greta Van Fleet
They certainly seem to divide people, but really, this song is just fantastic and shows they are nowhere near just a Led Zeppelin clone.
Sugar Babies by Spoon
This is actually an unreleased song from their album from last year. Love it.
Cavalryman by Seb Lowe
I don't know much about Seb Lowe at all, but this song is just pure fire, a great song and you can't go wrong with a violin.
